today we snucked out from opd for a while to attend the assembly (yup hosp even has those things) since we were going to be introduced as new members of the staff, or at least our pics were.
so anyway, in we went into the hall and even got some nuts as door gift. not bad eh.. they were courtesy of the paediatric unit who were in charge of that monthly event. they even had a choir going and had the hall decorated with bright flags (for merdeka), ketupats and deepavali designs dotted with candles. what's the nice colourful decoration on the floor called again? can't remember. always saw it in imu though... anyway, they had them there too!
they should this really touching short slide show on the special children in the wards, on how some chidlren could grow up playing happily, while others had to go through so much pain. it really saddened me to see them labouring so hard to breathe.. breathing with all their might with all those numerous tubes stuck to their chest. or to see those little babies with their bodies all distorted and twisted like they got fixed in all the wrong directions. it really makes me so grateful that at least i can walk, talk, do whatever i want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. what specially touched me was their quote of hippocrates at the end...
"we cure. sometimes. we treat. often. we comfort. alwayz..."
and that's why we should reach out, and continue doing so.
we might lose steam or energy after some time.
but their smile will always keep us going.
so reach out...
you never know how many lives will never be the same.
because of your little touch.
sometimes i think...
we need them more than they need us.
coz they teach us so much more...
about courage, about how precious the gift of life is.
they teach us how to be thankful.
and in discerning that,
our life gains meaning.
