A lady told her pastor that she was miserable all year long.
Were her sons in trouble? He asked.
No. both her sons were good and filial she said. One son sold dried meat ‘bah gua’ while one sold umbrellas. When it was raining, she thought of her son who sold dried meat and worried that his meat won’t be able to dry. In that case, his business will be affected and he may even go bankrupt!! So she worried all day and prayed for the rain to stop.
After half a year, there was a change in season, and the rain stopped. It became a time of drought. This time, she worried bout her other son who sold umbrellas. With such hot weather, no one will buy umbrellas. Then his company will collapse. What will happen to her son? Her grandchildren?? Then she prayed for the rain to come again. And when the rain did come, she worried bout her ‘bah gua’ son again. And so it went on, leaving her a miserable woman whole year long.
The pastor said, when it rains, you should think about your son who sells umbrellas. Think about how good his business is as everybody will need umbrella during that monsoon season and be thankful. When the rain stops and the weather becomes dry, think of your other son, whose meat will dry quickly. Hence his business will be good and you will be happy.
This just shows that happiness is by our own choice. It is in how we see things, our outlook in life. If we choose to be more positive, our life will also brighten up. =)
