Emerge 1st day =]

A day full of various events.. with entry by wrist bands. it turned out quite nice, not as boring as last year..;p hope tonight, the finale, is even better.

First was the Transformers event. they really spent a lot of effort making it look real. one group's transformer really looked like a jeep! all looked very nice, especially on screen. very robotic. haha.. LU's transformer was bumblebee. cute, but a bit damaged. ;p

Next was some drum performance. followed by praise and worship

then they had a hip hop dance by o-school, singapore. not bad la. but i still think urban groove is better. the best!=]

after that we had talent time performance by the finalists. the drumer was only 14!! and he was so good. the guitarist was also quite good.

Next was a violin performance by rebecca tan, a child prodigy from Malaysia who graduated from trinity college and the london school of economics. pretty? yeah. what i liked most was her ever changing facial expressions according to the music. sometimes moody, sometimes smiling, sometimes thoughtful..

Then they interviewed Elim Chew, founder of 77th street, entrepeuneur of the year 2002, 2003. who was supposed to be rich and successful, on 20 boards, including NUS. what was remarkable was that she had always been the outstanding student - outside standing. and yet she could be so successful. so i guess God can use anyone if you are willing

A special guest, milk, from taiwan gave a performance too. two songs altogether. i didn't know who he was but got to know later that he was from energy previously. quite good looking, but a bit fat.;p

Last but not least, the parade of schools! i think the best was from MINT, but somehow they had some trouble doing three tier formations. one girl almost fell a few times. yet, they managed to shove her up in time and she will immediately smile radiantly. one group, forgot which one, did some helicopter-like thingy where three horizontal girls were thrown to the adjacent place at the same time. dunno how to say it. must see for yourself only you will understand. haha.. LU was, well, full of transformers. thanx to you know who. and we saw some very familiar steps. but i still think the original was the best! go pharmaknights!!

sermon by pastor Kong Hee:
bout being creative. Solutions, creativity, originality, esthetic outlook

3 words God doesn't like: difficult, impossible, cannot be done

What i think is most interesting is when he said that God does things with style. coz He did not just sign an agreement with Noah or give a handshake, he drew a rainbow..

i alwayz thought rainbows were very beautiful. =]

a nice song long buried in my memory..

i remember that i used to play this song. long time ago. haha.. then yesterday i unexpectedly heard it on light & easy. so ... i went to find out a bit more bout it.

The story of Memory began with the idea for Cats, back in 1977, the year that Andrew Lloyd Webber picked up a copy of T.S Eliot's book of poems -- poems that his mother had read to him as a child. Lloyd Webber's usual way of working was first to create a melody and then add lyrics. But, curious if he could work the process the other way around, he composed melodies for the words of these Eliot poems that he loved and turn them into song.

Two weeks before the opening, Lloyd Webber was concerned that the new show lacked a big hit song. So for this one song, Lloyd Webber went back to his normal habit and wrote the melody first, before a lyric was created, and the song Memory, sung by Grizabella the Glamour Cat, came to life -- just barely in time for opening night. Cats most definitely had its hit song!

i've never seen it, but i heard that it is good. anyway, here is the song..

Midnight, not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory, she is smiling alone
In the lamplight the withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
/ C - Am - / F - Em - / Dm7 - Am7 - / G7 - C /

Memory, all alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days,
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

Every street lamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and a street lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning
/ Em EmDm Em EmDm / Em CD G - / Em A7 Dmaj7 G / Em A7 D /

Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life and I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes, tonight will be a memory, too
And a new day will begin

Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
A street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning

Touch me, it's so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory of my days in the sun
If you touch me, you'll understand what happiness is
Look a new day has begun

Memory - happy listening~ =]

remember me as me...=)

this morning at 2am, a family friend passed away.. it was so sudden.

he had one leg shorter than another, then one time during a healing prayer meeting, he got healed and his shorter leg grew to the same length as the other. but due to a lack of use for umpteen years, it was kinda weak, so he still walked with a limp. but at least he did not have to custom make his shoes to have one with higher soles. but i digress.

he died due to a heart attack. heart attack...or otherwise known as myocardial infarction... it happens when there is a thrombus blocking the coronary artery or when an unstable plaque ruptures, leading to myocardial ischaemia where the heart lacks oxygenated blood. if not reversed, irreversible myocardial cell damage and cell death occurs, leading on to myocardial infarction, with reduced function of the heart. when the heart cannot function, the whole body just shuts down.

yea yea i know all this facts, but people are not supposed to die. that's not the end of the story. they are supposed to get rushed to the hospital and recover after that. then we the pharmacists will counsel them on changing their diet and on how to take their medication. but well.. this is reality.

everybody dies in the end. but what do we leave behind? i remember that i always went to this uncle's house when my old house was fogged. he was a very nice guy. then his three daughters would entertain me and show me their coin collection. i was... in kindergarden? older maybe?

a friend of mine wrote that when people die, others will remember them for what they did, not what they were. it's like, they won't remember someone who was the top of the class, or someone who was the prom king or prom queen. but they will remember the someone who lent them a helping hand when they were in need, the someone who sat beside them when they cried, the someone who left an impact in their lives..

it just makes me wonder, what will i be remembered as? =]

something a friend emailed to me that i find quite meaningful..

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
>When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

>When someone is in your life for a REASON,
>it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
>They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
>to provide you with guidance and support,
>to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
>They may seem like a godsend and they are.
>They are there for the reason you need them to be.
>Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
>this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
>Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
>Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
>What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled,
>their work is done.
>The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.>>>>

>Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
>because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
>They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
>They may teach you something you have never done.
>They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
>Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.*>*>>>>

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons,
>things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
>Your job is to accept the lesson,
>love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other
>relationships and areas of your life.
>It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.>>*>>

Thank you for being a part of my life,
>whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.*

what a surprise..=]

i thought my writing that day was quite lame, with a lame plot and an even lamer style of writing, but hey, i got second in the emerge essay writing competition. but one day, i'll show you all what i think is a quality essay.

today, khen called me and told me the good news, but of course, not before he had fun tricking me bout it. anyway, this is the first time i heard him so 'sakai' when he was talking. normally he is so serius. anyway, i was quite afraid that he was going to scold me for letting imu down. even though second is not that great, i'm glad i didn't let imu down. Go L.U.!

so here is the piece i wrote for the competition. personally, i don't think this is something i'm really satisfied in. that's coz it doesn't give me the feeling i want. when i write a piece that i'm proud of, i get really into it when i'm writing, and when i finish, i can feel in my heart that i did my best, a real sense of satisfaction. i can't say that for this essay, but well, here it is. there's some ammendments which i have already forgotten since i wrote it some time ago. but the gist of it should be something like this...

“No dad! Stop! Please!!” He used his bare arms to try and shield him and his little sister from their father’s lashing belt. His father, in his drunken rage, continued to lash out at them mercilessly. At the fall of each stinging whip, he could feel pain rack through his entire body. Still, he held his sister tight, trying in vain to protect her as much as he could. They had lost their mother to a painful accident two years ago, leaving behind an insanely drunk father. His sister was all he had left. The pain was not too hard to bear. Soon, it will be over. Soon, their father would lumber up the stairs to sleep off the booze. Soon, only the wailing of a child could be heard in the silent night.

“We have to get out of here.” He told his sister, Fanny. “If we stay on any longer he will kill us one day!” Fanny just stared up at him with large, tear-filled eyes. “What should we do?”Fanny whispered, fear reflecting in her eyes. “I want mommy back”, Fanny started to cry. He could only hold Fanny close as Fanny’s body shook with wracking sobs. He was sad too, devastated at the lost of his mother, in fact, but he had to stay strong. The night his mother died was the night he had to grow up in a hurry, as that very night their father turned to alcohol to drown his sorrows. Apparently everyone had their own way of dealing with pain.

“Tonight,” he promised Fanny. He had been secretly selling berries, which he picked from the forest near their village, to his classmates for a year now. The meagre fare he saved up was finally enough to warrant him and his sister a seat in a boat to the next town where he heard that children could earn a living mending fishing nets. The chances that he would find a good samaritan willing to take them in was very slim indeed, but it was better than trying to pretend that the pain from the numerous beatings was gone, or to see his sister covered in bruises, cowering in fear, or wailing in pain. They had to get out. It was their only chance. It could be their last chance.

They waited until darkness enveloped the sky before creeping out of the house. From afar, he could see the lonesome figure of his father drinking alone on the porch. For a moment, it nearly shook his resolve to run. But then, remembering the screams of his sister at the lashings so cruely served to them, he steeled his heart, tightened his hold on Fanny’s arm and ran like never before. Finally, he felt free. Finally, he felt safe. An unknown world was out there waiting for them, with new roads to be taken, new paths to be found. But he would not be alone. Together they will find their safe haven.

It was only a short distance to the dock. Frantically, he scanned the boats for the sailor he spoke to earlier. Finally, he saw him drinking with some other sailors aboard one of the boats. His heart froze at the sight of booze, but he told himself that it would be ok. That it was just a short boat trip. He tugged his sister behind him and hailed the sailor in as manly a voice as he could. “That’s the boy joining our boat tonight,” he heard the sailor say to his friends while guffawing loudly. Drawing on all his courage, he said to the man, “here is the money. Can you help my sister up first?” The man bent over and gave Fanny a shove up. Looking back once more at all that he knew, the boy hoped that a brighter future awaited them at the other side of the lake. Finally, he turned and pulled himself up the boat.

“What do you think you are doing?” the sailor growled in a low voice. Puzzled, he said, “I paid you didn’t I?” The sailor laughed an evil laugh, and then said, “You paid me alright, for one seat. That’s for this adorable young lady we have here.” Turning to leer at Fanny, the sailor nudged his friend, “How much do you think this girl can bring us?” Their manic laughter rang in the air as they continued to gulp down more beer.

Fear gripped his heart. Everything was happening in a whirl. He could not believe that this was happening. They had tried so hard to run away from danger, but fate decreed otherwise. He had been duped! He had to get Fanny out of there now! “Fanny! Come quick!”He shouted. Fanny, terrified beyond her wits, started to run towards him, but was held back by one of the sailors. “She’s ours now.” The sailor said with a grin, then pushed him over the side of the boat.

Time seemed to stand still. He could see Fanny’s head looking down at him, but it seemed so unreal, so dream-like, like it was from another world. He felt separated from her by an invisible barrier. Her mouth was open and she seemed to be crying, but he could hear nothing. He could only watch as her face grew smaller and smaller, further and further. Then everything went black. Darkness enveloped him. He could feel no more pain, no more fear. But it was not supposed to end this way…

a trip down memory lane~

i still remember the time when i was still in intec. there was this time we were so desperate for internet that we actually went to the cc to go online. paying per hour le!! don't know what happened to the school comp lab that time. just now i revisited the blog i used to keep in xanga. it's been so long, yet it's still there. quite surprising. looking back, i can just say that i have grown. i guess that's what you do when you face the reality out there. i guess that's just life for you..

actually, thinking back bout intec, i really miss just going to the basketball court at night and shooting, or at least, trying to shoot. hehe.. it's just so therapeutic, after all the stress and workload and more stress. we used to think that it was such a safe place.only after coming to imu have we heard all sorts of stories bout the danger of our hostel. i guess ignorance really is bliss.~

last pp1 lab for sem 4

making suppositories - y'know, the things you shove up your ass hole - and moisturising cream.hehe..
the last lab for this sem, not counting exams though.. it was quite fun under mr. david and mr. khalid. especially today when we all - my bench - went miangkai - miang and sakai haha - taking pictures until poor mr. khalid couldn't leave..
heard about pp3. sounds so scary. now we will be asked to make 3 preparations in 3 hours and we all not even sure whether that's possible or not. later, we will have to make 6 in 3 hours, plus counselling. how shitty is that??

cream making~

my three creams~

the "smooth" surface i was slaving through at the end of the lab. i seemed to be making it worst though^^

this bottle was harder to fill..

A za a za!;p
>>>

western delight

after the carnival opening ceremony (plus all the free food) yesterday, i rushed home to start preparing for my western dinner. kind of early though, but i thought it would take more time. so, i started preparing for dinner at 2pm. hmm.. next time if i have to cook for my family, it will take me 8 hours of cooking a day to cook both lunch and dinner. that's like cooking for a job right? just that it doesn't bring back the bacon. bye bye pharmacy.. nice knowing you!haha..

thus the preparation began...
preparing the materials

all set to go

The products: spaghetti, mashed potato and sauce, coleslaw

not forgetting: honey-flavoured konyaku and soya jelly (both not sweet enough though)

and of course, the three iron chefs.^^

PD trip

what a horrible day

my digi line was cut. it was bound to happen sooner or later, but i didn't really expect it to happen. now, i don't know whether to resurrect it or not. the nostalgia is there, but the meaning is gone. what should i do???
then last night, something nice and unexpected happened, but....
it had to end so horribly.
ok, part of it was my fault too. but i can't help being half asleep after midnight can i? besides, i already apologized this morning, but i seem to be talking to a wall. so... haiz.. why does life suck so much??

metamorphosis

life is a struggle,
but we emerge stronger and more beautiful...
