sudden case of uk blue-ness

suddenly miss so many things all at once.. it's overwhelming.

i so miss slugging on fiona's bedroom floor...

miss chatting with shu yin till late night and still dowan to sleep...

i even miss yi lyn mama's nagging.. what has happened to me???? no la, kidding. hehe.. really missed you too lyn lyn..

and karen's cooking.. wow karen's cooking. need i say any more?

miss fen fen's cheerful smile and cute pinchable face...

miss walking into the kitchen and seeing leng's cheerful smile while cooking something delicious or eating or laughing at me as i go for my numerous top-ups of fried rice... i could finish up almost a whole wok, no kidding

miss going to new mercy.. our life group.. our discipleship group.. even walking to church for practice in the cold.. and of course, starbucks' dark berry mocha.. ;p

miss going for photo hunting.. with my "si fu"s chris and kelvin.. who introduced me to the wonderful world within a frame, and taught me so much.. miss trisha who brightens up our outing with her blur and sleepy looks yet positive attitude..

miss pui ee.. for being my guide. my friend. my dicipler.

of course, i would be lying if i say i didn't miss the internet connection there. haha..

miss traveling with all my dear friends along with all our sakai-ness..

miss hui yen and hui yin's laughter when we had the chance to be housemates at the last part of our year in uk. feel lucky to be able to be ah yen's housemate once again after such a long time. but feel a bit sad that i didn't get to know hui yin better earlier. but well, better late than never.=]

miss hanging out with my dear juniors before we left..

even miss walking to the bank, with my headphones on and music accompanying my every step.

gosh.. i just miss that whole year in glasgow (and out of it) so so much.

now we are all scattered all over malaysia, not forgetting uk, with hardly a chance to meet, except maybe each other's weddings in the future. sigh..

it's been a great pleasure and honour knowing all of you. wherever you all are right now, wish you all the best. to those in uk, miss you all! and take care. and to our fellow coursemates who are now prps, we will survive this!

hmm.. why am i so restless and nostalgic tonight?? i wonder...

anyhow.. glasgow will always hold a special place in my heart....

getting cheated by a patient... well, that's a first...

today is the first time i got cheated by a patient.

......

patient came in claiming she dropped her humapen and the cartridge holder broke (split into half to be more exact) which she then threw away. so, being the nice pharmacists we are, we gave her a new pen. just after she left, my senior found out that the cartridge holder was actually stuck in the cover, and the root of the problem was that the aunty had twisted the holder too gengchao-ly until the glass broke and got stuck inside, hence leading to the cartridge not being able to screw in. sweat. had to call the patient back. i actually chased her until out of the clinic, but then i was chasing the wrong person. so well. good thing we take down their telephone numbers. -.-V

anyway, moral of the story is... patients nowadays are tricky...

yesteday, the first round of seremban people in kk had their h1n1 vaccine jab. i had always thought that loadz of people couldn't wait to get their hands on the vaccine, but surprisingly, only 10 people consented to getting jabbed yesterday. i guess, what with 10% side effects of burning, local symptoms, flu-like symptoms including fever, muscle ache, tiredness etc, and 1% of other more rare effects.. (actually, 1% considered rare?? besides, heard got people died too in overseas.. but they make it compulsory for med proffesionals overseas i heard, if not you lose ur job..) anywayz, so just 10 were brave enough to be the guinea pigs in this first round. prps were not considered anyway. but the guineas seemed fine enough to me after jabbing. good sign..

driving back here just now, i really loved the sky, a shade of baby blue, with a golden tinge from the setting sun. nice!

i'm random. i know.

this has been a week which felt so long. maybe coz of the exam on monday, which left me with mixed feelings. anyways, gotta wait 2 months for the results. so might as well not think about it.

my car needs fixing. sigh.. the volume control seems to have a mind of its own. it goes cresendo all of a sudden, up to the volume and at the speed that can get you to reflex jam on your brake. and it doesn't help that my tyres need changing too. or maybe it's the brake. doesn't seem to grip that well when i emergency brake as i always do. okay.. i think the root is i need to drive slower. lots of police on the road these days.

suddenly feel like buying an iphone... iphone.. pda... iphone.. pda.. or just lug those books around and become muscle woman..?? decisions....

and waiting for me this weekend?? need to vomit out our proposal for the research project. can no longer hide behind the excuse of studying for forensic exam. sigh..

i'm finally a MPS member! yay! *leaps for joy*. no, it's not majlis perbandaran seremban, but malaysian pharmaceutical society. they sent me this package with a bound book of journal abstracts, a newsletter, coupled with 2 cds, one bout anti-infectives resistance, one bout h1n1 resources for pharmacists.

which suddenly reminds me.. are they really cutting our salary?? serious shit meh?! and when we have to do night calls and weekend calls and all that too.:(

and i suddenly remember... i sooooo have to brush up on my cantonese speaking skills. after a very painful cantonese counselling session.. even i can't stand to hear myself speak. help...

i'm so...

tired..

stressed..

and working in kk now requires me to do squats throughout the whole day, leaving my bones now aching and stiff.

i so need a study break for this forensic exam......

close call...

it was a busy wave..
the working space was cramped..
the person next to me was asking me questions every 2 minutes while i was checking..
(now i know how irritating distracting i was...)
the medication was all in brand names..

all of a sudden, it didn't register in my mind that Daonil was Glibenclamide.

i should have known, that the earlier cross-checking is not sth to count on. well, if in everyone's mind is the thought that, 'oh well, if this isn't correct then the other person will pick it up'. outcome? mistakes just slip out like that.

and once the patient gets the wrong medication.. they run away and you can never catch them back.

i was like SOOOOOOOOO dead.....

i can't believe it, but i had given that thingy out against my gut feeling to ask coz i was afraid i would be bothersome.

so well...

patient come back~~~~~~~

anyways, wishing for the patient to come back would be useless. i can't even remember who i dispensed to.. i could only hope that the patient wouldn't become hypo after taking gliclazide instead of glibenclamide. in fact, i was praying hard that somehow everything would be fine.

all throught lunch, daonil kept playing, rewinding and repeating in my mind..
oh noesssss....

after lunch i resumed as usual. someone asked me to screen for a while. everything went on as usual.. then suddenly.. this nurse appeared with THAT Rx!! asking me whether Daonil was correct or not. i could have kissed her if i could reach her.

really... Thank God!

number 1, the patient didn't have to eat gliclazide for one month. even though they are from the same group, no one can guarantee whether anything can happen. moreover, the label was all wrong!
number 2, if she really was warded coz of our mistake, we would have been in deep shit.
number 3, the nurse didn't go and complain to the doctor, or we would have been in deep shit too
number 4, i was the one screening..

really really thank God...

now, i will forever remember that Daonil is glibenclamide...

and i will check and double check, make sure i'm comfortable in my space, and Ask... if i'm not sure..

freakin S.I.E.N.Z

tonight supposed to find more info on my research topic.. even the thought drives me to sleep.

how am i going to do a study on UGIB and PGU comparing 2 drugs when in the whole 3 wards got only 1 case of UGIB and PGU each??? sighzzz.... i guess this is why ppl use a whole year to do the project. and i'm so bad to hope for more patients with these cases to appear.. since i've seen myself the pain it causes... sigh.. i wonder which drug my granma was on last time.

cannot find study on our topic is good i guess, means we'll be the pioneers! but is also so daunting. coz means we'll be the ones writing those gengcau papers claiming this that and the other.. like all those kononnya gengcau ppl i always imagined who wrote journals and stuff. i really can meh? design protocols etc... it seems so... duno how to say.. maybe i should kick off the mentality that i'm still a student with the free pass to say i dunno. now.. i must grow up and act like an adult and grope my way with as little head-bonks as possible.

another looming monster is the forensic exam. oh gosh.... i feel weak at the knees already. imagine reading MEP for the first time.. times the thickness by 3 times. then times by 2 books..

time limit? 25 days.

lets say 1 day after work got 7 hours.
1 hour = some overtime, some jam, get my ass home...
1 hour = eat dinner.. bathe..
1 hour = chill
left 4 hours.
let's say i don't procrastinate or fb or surf the net like what i'm doing now...
4 hours split by research project and forensic = 2 hours for forensic.

25 days x 2 hours = 50 hours = around 2 days without sleep eat shit or anything else. hmm.. maybe a should start panicking. since i work better under stress anyways. haha..

so as usual.. even though i have so much stuff to do.. i'm actually still procrastinating up till now.. and i stumbled upon this song.. really awesome! music brought to life!

pity there's no video here though. the video is on in fb though, for any who wanna see their excitement while playing.;p

i think i'd better start on my search for journals.. high time.. since it's 1 hour to bedtime. aiks...

ReacH OuT . . .

today we snucked out from opd for a while to attend the assembly (yup hosp even has those things) since we were going to be introduced as new members of the staff, or at least our pics were.

so anyway, in we went into the hall and even got some nuts as door gift. not bad eh.. they were courtesy of the paediatric unit who were in charge of that monthly event. they even had a choir going and had the hall decorated with bright flags (for merdeka), ketupats and deepavali designs dotted with candles. what's the nice colourful decoration on the floor called again? can't remember. always saw it in imu though... anyway, they had them there too!

they should this really touching short slide show on the special children in the wards, on how some chidlren could grow up playing happily, while others had to go through so much pain. it really saddened me to see them labouring so hard to breathe.. breathing with all their might with all those numerous tubes stuck to their chest. or to see those little babies with their bodies all distorted and twisted like they got fixed in all the wrong directions. it really makes me so grateful that at least i can walk, talk, do whatever i want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. what specially touched me was their quote of hippocrates at the end...

"we cure. sometimes. we treat. often. we comfort. alwayz..."

and that's why we should reach out, and continue doing so.
we might lose steam or energy after some time.
but their smile will always keep us going.

so reach out...
you never know how many lives will never be the same.
because of your little touch.

sometimes i think...
we need them more than they need us.
coz they teach us so much more...
about courage, about how precious the gift of life is.

they teach us how to be thankful.
and in discerning that,
our life gains meaning.

Melaka one day trip

once again another long overdue post.. man.. fb is doing bad stuff to my blog. sweat.

anyway, we went to melaka for a one-day trip with ck and his seniors during raya. gosh.. the jam was terrible. but the trip was not bad la. considering the conditions.

first of all, after dimsum for b'fast, we paid a short visit to wu gong shan in seremban temiang there. it's been quite a number of years since i've been there. they really renovated a lot. now it looks so modern. last time it looked like those forgotten temples up on the hill. which was not bad also. a totally different feel. more mysterious.

while my friends went in to offer their prayers, i kept myself busy outside taking pics of my favourite models - flowers! yay! finally, some more malaysian floras....

the view of seremban was kinda great too up there.

of course, the guys had the best photo at this spot. everyone knows why. haha..

this one not bad also la.;p

then we found the spot with the dreamy hills in the distance.... kachak kachak began with different people posing~ ^^

after that we headed on to melaka.. looking at pics in between.. then since it was so jam.. (raya ma.. since we had to go during such a peak period.. duno who plan wan.. haha..).. so as not to waste time, we were actually cam-whoring in the car.. so dangerous right. especially since the driver was our main photographer... but this is called making efficient use of every second and every minute.

finally, we passed by the red houses.. we were getting closer to our destination - newton foodcourt for fen fen's po piah!!

FINALLY!!! i like~

after eating, we went to jonkers and walked around for a while. it was so crowded.. we ended up eating horrible versions of famous stuff at places we've never heard of. but still.. a place to sit and chill was good enough i guess. the ice kacang wasn't too bad either apart from the ice being rock hard.

tried the snacks too~ nice! except for the last biji.. some china sa li or sth.. made all of us cough. i think it's irritant to the throat. wat a time to cough though.. especially in the midst of H1n1.. sigh.. sweat...

i wanted to buy home some pineapple tarts, but due to the excessive demand... we were told we would have to wait for like half an hour to 45 minutes for it.. too bad..

finally, after going in circles and getting lost (padan muka we all, at first say melaka very small), thanks to the help from fen fen we managed to find the satay celup shop!

i really should memorise melaka streets. it's really such a food haven~~

last stop.. su ying's house for mah jong. hmm.. first time i see ppl play. quite enlightening.

that's it!! fullstop for today!! journals awaiting.. look at the time... I'M SO D.E.A.D!

lunch with francis and suat yee on 19th Sep

i know this is long overdue, but better late than never right?;p

so well, we went to fatt kee to try the chicken rice there. it has been my favourite stall all the while, up till that day. i mean, the food was nice, but duno why of all days, that day's siew yuk was overcooked i think, it was so hard. and the chicken wasn't as nice as ah paw's. i still like the black char siew though. and fatt kee still tops the list for making the best taugeh, at least to me.

we had a fun relaxing time eating and catching up. finally got to meet up with francis too after so long. met ky's ex-colleague too that day! it was a day full of laughs, with much teasing and punking (all by suat yee wahahaha.. example: calling lin hui to say that we were at my house and i was packing my swimsuit to go to melaka and us hearing lin hui scolding over the phone bout why tell her so late. example 2: calling bk to say that they were already outside her house staring dolefully at her dogs). it was really great to finally meet them.=]

francis introduced us to those really funny punked incidences on hitz and we were rolling with laughter on our way home. they had to leave me at jusco though since it was my turn to stare dolefully at my empty house albeit with no dogs this time.

since my camera was already out.. it was time for some random shots. hehe..

went carb crazy.. oh dear..

they weren't as nice as i remembered though. gimme the old flavours back!!

went home, stuffed myself, went shutter crazy~

all in all, it was a great day.=]
